SHOW INFO

‘GORGE’ DELIVERS A DELICIOUSLY DARK FANTASY

2012 NZ Fringe Festival winner (‘Best Newcomer’ for ‘Honey’ / ‘Outstanding Performance’ Nominee) Virginia Frankovich (‘Black Confetti’ – Auckland Theatre Company) , and Phoebe Mason (‘Confessions’ – Benjamin Henson; ‘Beyond the Blue’ – Red Leap Theatre), invite you to immerse yourself in the tale of ‘GORGE.’ Inspired by the obsessive nature of human consumption, Frankovich and Mason, along with director Benjamin Henson (‘Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris’; ‘Confessions’; ’Titus Andronicus’; Turn of the Screw’) have devised this twisted tale to deliver you a sensory feast.

Be led on a journey to a land of gateaux and blancmanges – when appearance was everything and substance was secondary; when morals were loose and status reigned supreme; when a dark underbelly thrummed beneath delight and wonderment. Through emotion, physicality, and personal experience, the ensemble delves into the depth of the human psyche and questions the need and nature of consumption. Rivers of cake batter, towers of marshmallow fondant, spits of roast pork, and the feeling of watching someone devour something you cannot have.

That said, the audience won’t leave the show empty-stomached.

'GORGE' will take you on a journey of excess and frivolity and leave you with a bittersweet aftertaste.
Frankovich, Mason and Henson have a record of thought-provoking devised work- not shying away from the dark and grotesque whilst never neglecting that cherry on top.

Come join the banquet.

There will be food. There will be blood.

the big photoshoot

We had a photoshoot today. Which felt good because it finally felt like we were making the show. That the show is actually going to happen. Even though we haven't made it yet. Chris Stratton took the photos and phoebe and I sourced the food and costumes and stuff. Here are two sneakpeek shots. I can't wait to post the proper photos.

well hey there.

Hello!
Virginia's the one, but I'm the other one!
This weekend I made cupcakes out of pumpkin and no butter.
Well.
I learnt the insightful lesson that unless you want a lumpy little cake which tastes like raw pumpkin, definitely don't make cupcakes out of pumpkin and no butter.
Put lots of butter in and save the pumpkin for the Weight Watchers (zero points bitchez!).

Love Phoebe

cheese artery

saturday night confession:
i just gorged on the most revolting cheese pizza ever.
all it had on it was a thick layer of cheese that was like this hard yellow mat which slid off the base as i was eating it.
it was a "stuff-crust" pizza so even the crust was filled with cheese. i don't really like stuff-crust so i chewed around the outside of the crust, leaving the white cheesey innards.
the reject cheese tubing looked a bit like the artery they show you on those QUIT SMOKING ads.
i am gross.

the start

hello.
feeling pretty good.
it's friday afternoon and i've just finished the registration form for our show GORGE for the auckland fringe festival. this is the first 'show application thingimagig' i've done. feel like i deserve some sort of medal. it was pretty taxing after-all. i had to eat a lot of chili & garlic salted peas to get me through it. anyway, i thought i'd de-flower the site. get things pumping. ok. well that's that done.
i'm gonna go now. really craving some sort of pizza with a really doughy base.
ciao.
